GAIL India Ltd. and TruAlt Bioenergy have joined hands in a $72-million compressed biogas (CBG) joint venture, aiming to establish ten plants to produce over 33 million kg of CBG using organic waste as the primary material.

GAIL will have a 49 percent stake in the partnership, while TruAlt Bioenergy will hold 51 percent, forming the joint venture named Leafinti Bioenergy Limited. The investment, a combination of debt and equity, is subject to due diligence and regulatory approvals.

Each plant is designed to process 10,000 kg of organic waste daily, yielding 100,000 kg of CBG. The initiative is projected to create more than 600 jobs and produce solid-fermented organic manure (SFOM) and liquid-fermented organic manure (LFOM).

The collaboration aligns with India's commitment to cleaner fuel, supporting the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. TruAlt Bioenergy, part of India's ethanol-blended petrol (EBP) programme, seeks to establish a CBG ecosystem for a seamless shift to cost-effective and ecological energy sources, contributing to sustainable agricultural practices.
