India has great potential in biogas, as demonstrated by the Indian Biogas Association (IBA) during the Renewable Energy India Expo 2023 in Greater Noida from October 4-6.

The IBA secured investments totalling £2,755 crore, which could materialise over the next three years. The association has generated vast international interest, particularly from countries such as Germany, Sweden, and Italy.

There is an anticipatory buzz for 54 letters of intent focused on establishing compressed biogas plants nationwide. The IBA was founded in 2011 and rejuvenated in 2015, bringing together operators, manufacturers, policymakers, and researchers. The association collaborates with global entities such as the German Biogas Association, showcasing their commitment to fostering bio-energy growth in India.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and international industry leaders supported this year's expo, showcasing various renewable energy domains, including bioenergy, solar, wind, electric vehicles, and advanced battery storage. The event aimed to accelerate India's journey to net-zero emissions, gaining momentum due to the recent proclamation of the Global Biofuel Alliance by the G20 nations.
