Industry group WIPPA proposed four measures on Friday to accelerate development in the wind energy sector.

"At the central government, we request the implementation of the four policies – implementation of the bidding plan, ISTS (inter-state transmission system) open access, fixing the missing links in LPS (late payment surcharge), and greater facilitation of offshore wind bids," Wind Independent Power Producers Association (WIPPA) president Parag Sharma said in a statement.

In advance of Global Wind Day on June 15, the organisation will host an event on Sunday to raise awareness of wind energy with the help of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), according to a statement. On June 11, 2023, Global Wind Day will be held here, highlighting the MNRE and WIPPA's contributions to the revival of India's wind industry. On Thursday, the Global Wind Day Conference 2023 was also held in Pune. Joint Secretary at MNRE Dinesh Dayanand Jagdale expressed pleasure with the gigawatts added to the ground so far and the durability of the wind farms being constructed.

He said, "India is proud of all the hard work being put in by each state, each stakeholder, each discom, each nodal agency. I am confident that with a strong partnership between MahaUrja, MahaDiscom, MNRE, developers, manufacturers, and financiers, we will be able to hand-hold each other and take India's wind journey forward. Going forward, ease of doing business will be taken up very aggressively to meet the country's renewable energy targets".

By 2022, India had aimed to install 175 GW of renewable energy capacity, of which 100 GW would come from solar, 60 GW from wind, 10 GW from biopower, and 5 GW from small hydropower. However, according to official data, 173.619 GW of renewable energy capacity—of which 43.198 GW is wind capacity—was added through May 31, 2023.WIPPA is an organisation of wind developers and Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in India that represents business concerns and recommendations to governmental and non-governmental organisations about the growth of wind energy. The combined capacity of its members is close to 12,000 MW, and their asset base exceeds Rs. 60,000 crore.
