Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India announced that it has partnered with the Indian Institute of Science for advanced research collaboration, with a specific focus on electric vehicles (EVs).

The two entities have formally agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a two-year collaboration aimed at fostering joint research and promoting collaborative innovation in the field of electric vehicles, as stated by Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI).

Manu Saale, Managing Director and CEO of MBRDI, highlighted the significance of collaborations that bridge the gap between industry and academia, enabling the scientific research community to provide cutting-edge innovation in line with the evolving demands of the industry and customers.

"We are excited about the possibilities of working closely with the Indian Institute of Science and look forward to bringing the best of Indian engineering research to the global stage," Saale added.

The partnership's primary focus will be on driving engineering transformation and pursuing long-term research-oriented projects. Both organisations will leverage each other's existing capabilities, including infrastructure and academic programmes, according to the company's statement.

Govindan Rangarajan, Director of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), emphasised that the collaboration with MBRDI in the areas of sustainable mobility and EVs promotes energy independence and creates economic opportunities.

"The partnership reinforces our commitment to strengthening industry-academia engagements that can make a significant impact in the coming years," Rangarajan stated.

As part of the partnership, the Foundation for Science, Innovation and Development (FSID) will manage IISc's interactions with the industry and facilitate access to IISc's knowledge base and resources.

The two-year agreement also encompasses the exchange of information, teaching materials, technological and scientific publications, seeking joint funding opportunities for publishing papers, generating and protecting intellectual property, and sponsoring research, according to the statement.
