India's ambitious green hydrogen initiative, fuelled by a substantial $2 billion incentive programme, triggers fierce competition among major industrial giants.

Reliance Industries, JSW Energy, Torrent Power, and Bharat Petroleum headline the 14 companies vying for lucrative green hydrogen production contracts, creating a high-stakes showdown.

The battleground expands to electrolyser manufacturing, a pivotal technology underpinning green hydrogen production. An impressive 20 companies featuring industry behemoths such as Adani Group, Jindal India, Larsen & Toubro, and Bharat Heavy Electricals have thrown their hats into the ring for electrolyser manufacturing incentives. Bids for a colossal 3.4 GW of electrolyser capacity flooded in, surpassing the initial 1.5 GW invitation and reflecting overwhelming industry enthusiasm.

This enthusiastic response sets a promising tone for India's ambitious target of achieving a remarkable 5 million tonnes of annual green hydrogen production capacity by 2030. Industry titans, including Acme Cleantech, Sembcorp Green Hydrogen, CESC, Greenko ZeroC, and Avaada GreenH2, are now in the race for green hydrogen production contracts, propelling the nation into the forefront of the clean energy frontier.

Adding to the excitement, companies like Waaree Energies, Ohmium Operations, Advait Infratech, and Acme Cleantech Solutions are competing for a share of the lucrative electrolyser manufacturing segment. This surge of interest signals the emergence of a robust domestic electrolyser manufacturing ecosystem, a crucial stride towards self-sufficiency in this nascent sector.

With the conclusion of the bidding process, attention shifts to SECI's evaluation and award of the coveted contracts. The selected champions not only bear the responsibility of meeting immediate project goals but also hold the key to steering India's green hydrogen revolution, charting a course towards a cleaner and more sustainable future.
