UNIREC, a sustainable brand from India, creates clothing from recycled PET bottles. The brand has announced a significant milestone towards a greener future: a $190,000 USD (Rs 1.5 crore) fundraise from BeyondSeed in a seed funding round.

This strategic infusion from BeyondSeed will help UNIREC with market expansion and intensify research and development efforts to create innovative, sustainable fabrics.

Over the past 18 months, UNIREC has achieved significant milestones, selling more than 25,000 garments made from recycled PET bottles. This achievement translates into 300,000 (6,000 kilogrammes) PET bottles recycled and 100 tonnes of carbon emissions reduced.

In recent years, the apparel company has increased its focus on rapidly scaling both online and offline. In the past 18 months, it has manufactured 40,000 garments, of which 25,000 have been sold. With the funds from the recent round, UNIREC plans to manufacture and sell 25,000 garments monthly. This will ensure that the positive environmental impact achieved in the past 18 months is replicated monthly.

The development is a significant milestone for UNIREC, which would help the company accelerate its move towards creating sustainable fashion that positively impacts the environment.

The strategic partnership reflects a growing global commitment to turning the plastic waste problem into an opportunity.

Each garment produced by UNIREC contributes to the recycling of 10 plastic bottles on average. The brand manufactures t-shirts and formal jackets, sleeveless jackets, trousers, and shirts, addressing a diverse range of clothing needs and emphasising the intersection of fashion and sustainability.
