Ashok Chaturvedi, Chairman and Managing Director of UFlex, released a report titled "Proposed National Standard for Scientific Estimation of Recycled Content" at an event hosted by the Plastic Packaging Research and Development Centre (PPRDC). The report aims to establish a standardised way to measure recycled plastic in packaging for accurate EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) reporting.

Chaturvedi highlighted UFlex's commitment to sustainability and investment in recycling technologies. He stated, "We recycle close to 30,000 MT of Multi-Layer Plastic (MLP) waste annually and aim to reach 100,000 MT by expanding our global recycling facilities. While we commend the Indian government's waste management regulations, there's a need for consistent measurement of recycled content in packaging to prevent inconsistencies in EPR reporting."

The report, developed by the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET), proposes using FTIR spectroscopy and DSC-based techniques to create a National Standard for assessing recycled content. This would help deter practices like greenwashing and waste fraud.

The event also featured discussions on EPR implementation in India and the challenges faced by producers, brand owners, and importers in complying with EPR guidelines. Participants included government officials and representatives from various industry bodies.

PPRDC, a non-profit research center established by the Multilayer Plastics Films Sanitation Trust, briefed attendees on the proposed national standard and best practices for building a circular economy.
