The Outlook Planet Sustainability Summit & Awards 2024 for Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) were presented on 27th May in Goa. The event was organised by the Outlook Group with IIT Goa as the Knowledge Partner, and BDO India as the Awards Process Advisor. 

In a first of its kind, the awards were given away in the categories of Sustainable Governance Champion, Corporate Responsibility Champion, Circularity Champion and Climate Action Champion. Under each award category, three awards were given sub-categories like fossil fuels (FF), non- fossil fuels (NF) and Jury's Special Recognition. 

Coal India Limited (FF), NHPC Limited (NF) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (Jury Special Recognition Award) bagged the awards under the category of Sustainable Governance Champion. 

GAIL (India) Limited (FF), Power Finance Corporation Limited (NF) and NLC India Limited (Jury Special Recognition Award) won the awards under the category of Corporate Responsibility Champion. 

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (FF), Steel Authority of India Limited (NF), and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (Jury Special Recognition Award) were felicitated under the category of Circularity Champion. 

NTPC Limited (FF), Bharat Electronics Limited (NF), and Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Limited (Jury Special Recognition Award) topped under the category of Climate Action Champion. 

There were institutional as well as individual awards for Sustainability Champions in the Editor’s Choice Category. In the institutional segment, the awardees included Engineers India Ltd (EIL), HPCL, NMDC Limited, National Fertilizers Limited (NFL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC Limited), Oil India (OIL), Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited REC Limited. Dr. PS Gahlaut of Indian Potash and Prof. Rintu Banerjee, Dean of R&D at IIT - Kharagpur were felicitated in the individual category. 

BDO India rated the winners from a total of 132 CPSEs on their sustainability performance as per publicly available data. 

The jury comprised Dr Sukumar Devotta (chair), Prof. of Eminence, Anna University and included Prof. B.K. Mishra, Former Director, IIT Goa, and Rtd. Justice U V Bakre, Bombay High Court (members). Mr Dipankar Ghosh, Partner & Leader, Sustainability & ESG Practice, BDO India and Ms Suchetana Ray, Editor- Outlook Business and Chief Strategy Officer, Outlook Group. 

While the Keynote Address was delivered by Chief Guest Shri V Srinivas, Secretary, DARPG, Ministry of Personnel, PG & Pensions, the Special Address was by Prof Dhirendra S. Katti, Director, IIT-Goa. 

The symposium on India's Net Zero Journey: Lessons from CPSEs and Government promoted organisations was chaired by Dr. Vasundhara Upmanyu, Joint Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises and the speakers included Parminder Chopra, CMD, Power Finance Corporation and Dr Sukumar Devotta, Professor of Eminence (Hon) Anna University. The session was moderated by Ms Suchetana Ray, Editor, Outlook Business. 

The panel discussion on Mission LiFE and Management of Scope 3 Emissions was Chaired by Shri Sundeep Nayak, Former Director General, National Productivity Council. The speakers included Prof. B.K. Mishra, Former Director, IIT Goa; Col. Vinit Narayan, Regional Director, NCDC, Maharashtra, Goa and Dadra & Nagar Haveli; Shri Puneet Anand, AVP & Vertical, Head- Corporate Affairs, Hyundai Motor India; and Shri Dipankar Ghosh, Partner & Leader, Sustainability & ESG, Business Advisory Services, BDO India.
