India is currently hosting the third Energy Transitions Working Group Meeting (ETWG) in Mumbai from May 15 to 17, 2023, as part of its year-long G20 presidency. Over 100 representatives from the G20, special invitee countries, and international organisations like the World Bank, International Energy Agency (IEA), and World Energy Council are attending the three-day event's opening ceremony in Mumbai.

The meeting in Mumbai is being presided over by Alok Kumar, ETWG Chair and Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India. Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, Vivek Bharadwaj, and Amrit Lal Meena, secretaries in the ministries of coal and new and renewable energy, respectively, are also present for the proceedings.

Energy transition through closing technological gaps; low-cost financing for energy transition; energy security and diversified supply chains; energy efficiency, industrial low carbon transitions, and responsible consumption; Fuels for Future; and universal access to clean energy & fair, affordable, and inclusive energy transition pathway are some of the top topics that will be covered at the ETWG Meeting. The discussions and decisions made at the Mumbai meeting will expand on those made at the first two ETWG meetings, which took place previously in Bengaluru and Gandhinagar. The goal is to identify collaborative actions that can promote inclusive, equitable, and shared growth.

The ETWG meeting will also be accompanied by eight additional events on the sidelines, including a workshop with multilateral development banks (MDBs) to mobilise low-cost international financing, seminars on the Just Transition Roadmap, biofuels, offshore wind, sharing global policies and best practices to decarbonise necessary sectors, a seminar on SMRs for clean energy transition, and synchronising the energy transition pathways of the G20 ETWG and B20 India Energy Perspective.

There will be a total of four ETWG sessions held during the country's G20 presidency, in addition to a number of side meetings and a Ministerial Meeting.

The G20 Presidency of India will continue to build on the advancements and successes of previous presidencies, which have successfully facilitated international cooperation in the transition to clean energy and have established it as a cornerstone of the agenda for sustainable economic development.
