In the optical fibre value chain, gases like hydrogen and oxygen are notoriously challenging to decarbonise. However, STL and Hygenco, through their ambitious Green Hydrogen initiative, are committed to reducing carbon emissions by around 30% annually. Currently, STL relies on conventional energy sources to power its electrolysers, but Hygenco will introduce renewable energy-based electrolysers, allowing STL to produce its hydrogen in-house. This enhances efficiency and reduces potential hazards associated with procuring hydrogen in cylinders. The system will include autonomous energy management and real-time monitoring, further optimising operations.
