State-owned power producer SJVN Ltd. announced that it has entered into an agreement with the Solar Energy Corporation of India to provide 200 MW of wind power. The company has finalised a power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 200 MW grid-connected wind power project with Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd. (SECI), according to a statement by SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Nand Lal Sharma.

Sharma disclosed that SJVN Green Energy Ltd. (SGEL), its wholly-owned subsidiary, participated in SECI's tariff-based competitive bidding process for selecting wind power developers to establish 1,200 MW grid-connected wind power projects across India. SGEL secured 200 MW at a tariff of Rs 3.24 per unit through an open competitive tariff bidding process on a build-own-and-operate (BOO) basis.

Furthermore, Sharma mentioned that the 200 MW wind project would be executed by SGEL anywhere in India through an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract. This project's allocation increases SJVN's wind portfolio to 497.6 MW. Of this, two projects with a combined capacity of 97.6 MW are operational, and the remaining three projects with a cumulative capacity of 400 MW are in different stages of development.

Sharma noted that the tentative cost for developing this project is Rs 1,400 crore. The project is anticipated to generate 482 million units in its first year after commissioning, with a projected cumulative energy generation of 12,050 million units over 25 years. The project is set to be commissioned by November 2025, within 24 months from the effective date of the PPA signing.

This addition in capacity will enhance SJVN's presence in the renewable energy sector and contribute to achieving the central government's goal of having 50 percent installed capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030. It aligns with the company’s new mission of reaching 12,000 MW by 2026 and the shared vision of achieving 50,000 MW of installed capacity by 2040.
