Prime Minister Narendra Modi, attending the COP28 meeting in Dubai, emphasised the crucial need for climate financing and technological transfer to developing countries. He underscored that these nations, despite not contributing significantly to the climate crisis, are actively committed to being part of the solution. Modi reiterated that climate change is a collective challenge requiring a unified global response.

Expressing optimism about COP28 injecting fresh momentum into effective climate action, Modi stressed the importance of aligning rising ambitions on climate action with progress on climate finance. He highlighted India's partnership with the UAE in shaping a greener and more prosperous future, emphasising their joint efforts to influence global discourse on climate action.

Discussing Indo-UAE ties, Modi noted the strengthening partnership in climate action, driven by a futuristic vision. Both countries, with robust relations, could collaborate in establishing a common grid to enhance energy security, leveraging strengths in the energy sector, and supporting the International Solar Alliance's Global Solar Facility.

Modi acknowledged India and the UAE as leaders in global renewable energy efforts, commending the UAE's unwavering commitment to climate action. On climate finance, he reiterated the collective challenge, advocating for global cooperation to ensure financing and technology transfer to developing countries in a practical and assured manner.

Emphasising climate action based on equity, justice, shared obligations, and capacities, Modi asserted that the development priorities of the Global South should not be compromised. He highlighted the recent G20 Summit's recognition of the need to scale up investment and climate finance substantially.

Ahead of COP28, Modi called for credible progress on the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on Climate Finance. He urged the implementation of commitments by developed countries to provide technological and financial support to developing nations.

Regarding collaboration, Modi stated that the cooperation between India and the UAE spans the entire energy spectrum, with a strong focus on sustainability. He highlighted the enduring relationship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations, emphasising their active collaboration in addressing the global challenge of climate change.

Looking to the future, Modi highlighted robust cooperation in renewables since 2014 and recent resolutions to advance collaboration in green hydrogen, solar energy, and grid connectivity. He expressed confidence that this partnership would play a pivotal role in crafting global solutions to current challenges in the climate sphere.
