Rao Inderjit Singh, who is the Union Minister of State (IC) for the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, Ministry of Planning, and MoS for the Ministry of Corporate Affairs in the Government of India, inaugurated the 'National Conference on Responsible Business Conduct' and the concurrent exhibition themed 'Embracing ESG in India.'

The event was organised in Delhi by the School of Business Environment at the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA). A galaxy of eminent leaders attended the first session.

Addressing the audience, Singh underscored the pivotal role of responsible business conduct in India, urging the corporate sector to intensify their focus on environmental protection through strategic CSR projects aligned with Schedule VII of the Companies Act 2013. He stressed the urgency of addressing critical issues like climate change, rising temperatures, eco-degradation, water scarcity, and declining water levels for our planet's survival and future generations' well-being.

On this occasion, Rao Inderjit Singh also unveiled the book "Demystifying ESG," co-authored by Prof. Garima Dadhich and Dr. Ravi Raj Atrey.

Shombi Sharp, representing the United Nations, emphasised the significance of realising Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for corporations and society. He commended India for its key role in transforming the SDGs Agenda 2030 into a global reality.

Manoj Govil, Secretary of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, acknowledged the need to increase the 'economic pie' and underscore the critical importance of responsible business conduct.

Praveen Kumar, DG & CEO, IICA, who welcomed guests earlier, highlighted the urgency for businesses to take immediate action on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practises. He formally welcomed all dignitaries and participants to the conference.

The panels, with eminent speakers, discussed 'Responsible Governance from Rights to Duties: Dialogues with Impact Leaders,' 'Measuring the Environmental Footprints of Business under Indian Regulatory Mechanism,' and 'Responsible Procurement: Supply Chain Challenges.' These sessions brought insightful deliberations on contemporary challenges and opportunities in responsible business conduct and sustainability.
