Neogen Ionics Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Neogen Chemicals Limited, has successfully completed the acquisition of approximately 65 acres of land in Pakhajan, Dahej PCPIR, Gujarat, as part of its forward-looking expansion strategy and in the pursuit of establishing a greenfield project.

This dedicated site will serve as the foundation for a cutting-edge plant focused on battery materials and emerging business opportunities.

In the initial phase of development, the plant will manufacture 30,000 metric tonnes of electrolytes and 4,000 metric tonnes of electrolyte salts and additives.

The electrolyte plant will utilise Manufacturing Technology licensed from MUIS, a joint venture between Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) and UBE Corporation, both integral parts of the Mitsubishi Chemical Group, a renowned Japanese conglomerate. Simultaneously, the electrolyte salts will be produced using Neogen's in-house technology, leveraging its 35 years of expertise in manufacturing lithium salts.

MUIS, with over 30 years of experience and the operation of five global plants, brings proven technology to Neogen, ensuring that the electrolytes adhere to established global standards for productivity and quality.

This commitment not only underscores the plant's dedication to meeting the demands of lithium-ion cell manufacturers in India but also positions it to cater to the expanding international OEM demand for electrolyte salts and additives. The plant is slated to become operational in the second half of 2025.

Neogen Chemicals Limited, established in 1989, is a leading manufacturer of bromine and lithium-based specialty chemicals. With four operational facilities in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Telangana spanning approximately 58 acres, the newly acquired 65-acre land will become the largest facility within the group.

Haridas Kanani, CMD of Neogen Ionics Limited, expressed satisfaction with the timely completion of the land acquisition, emphasising the strategic importance of the greenfield project in the battery materials sector. He highlighted the collaboration with MUIS in finalising the design, positioning the company to commence operations aligned with domestic and global customer timelines.

This development is a pivotal milestone in Neogen's growth journey, allowing them to be a reliable supplier in the rapidly growing global demand for lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles and energy storage applications. Furthermore, the facility sets the stage for future expansions, encompassing electrolytes, electrolyte salts, and other essential battery materials.
