A new ranking by TIME magazine and Statista identifies the world's most sustainable companies for 2024. These companies are taking concrete steps to fight climate change, not just talking about it.

The ranking considers factors like a company's commitment to reducing its own emissions and helping its customers do the same. It also looks at how much renewable energy they use and how they manage their supply chain.

In this survey, there are 9 Indian companies which have been recognised for their efforts. Tech Mahindra leads the pack, ranking 111th with a score of 69.59. Wipro and Mahindra are close behind, ranking 179th and 184th, with scores of 65.49 and 65.33, respectively. Godrej Properties and Hindustan Zinc also made the list, ranking 237th and 239th, with scores of 62.61 and 62.52, respectively. Airtel ranked 251st with a score of 61.96. Infosys and TCS were ranked 329th and 380th, with scores of 58.89 and 56.78, respectively. Finally, Dr. Reddy's ranked 397th with a score of 56.15. These rankings reflect the companies' commitment to sustainable practices in their respective industries.

Topping the list is Schneider Electric, a French company that makes software and services for managing energy use. They have vowed to achieve carbon neutrality by the year 2025 and are actively helping their clients become more energy efficient.

The ranking shows that sustainability is achievable in all industries, even those that make physical products. Illumina, a US-based biotechnology company, reduced packaging waste by 90 percent with its latest gene sequencer. Moncler, an Italian fashion house, uses recycled materials and gets all its energy from renewable sources.

While these companies are leaders, the ranking also highlights the ongoing challenge of sustainability. Even Schneider Electric, with the top score of 88.86 out of 100, has room for improvement. This is a decisive move for a sustainable future.
