In a significant move towards a sustainable future, Johnson Controls, the global leader in smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings, launched its ground-breaking whitepaper, "Tech for Green India – Mission Net Zero," at the 21st edition of Green Building Congress 2023, India's premier conference on the green built environment.

Top sources at the company underlined the company’s commitment to prioritise solutions that meet the specific needs of each building, fostering a holistic and collaborative approach to India's decarbonisation. The launch ceremony, presided over by Rathninde and Arun Awasthy, President and Managing Director, Johnson Controls India, marked a pivotal moment in the industry.

As nations globally accelerate efforts to achieve net-zero emissions in response to the climate crisis, India, the world's third-largest energy consumer, has set a target of reaching net-zero emissions by 2070. The whitepaper presented by Johnson Controls outlines the pivotal role of technology in reshaping buildings and urban spaces to align with India's ambitious decarbonisation goals.

The comprehensive strategy detailed in the whitepaper addresses critical challenges and opportunities facing the Indian green building industry. The plan includes:

Increasing Awareness and Adoption: The proposal highlights the need for effective information campaigns to educate professionals and citizens. Incorporating sustainability and green building modules into academic curricula and incentives like low-interest loans, additional construction areas, discounted property taxes, and worker skilling are recommended.

Enhancing Standardisation: The whitepaper suggests consolidating consistent green building standards into legally binding certifications for greater effectiveness. These certifications should be actively promoted across various channels, calling for consistent evaluation matrices to ensure accurate and consistent performance assessment.
