Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has sealed a Rs 932 crore loan deal to bolster India's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiatives. The loan, finalised on Thursday, will fuel projects led by NITI Aayog, impacting 112 aspirational districts and 500 blocks nationwide.

JICA's statement outlines a strategic focus on policy actions, effective practices, and bolstering the Japan-India partnership through human resource exchange.

In consultation with NITI Aayog, the loan will prioritise policy actions in five crucial fields: health and nutrition, education, agriculture and water resources, financial inclusion and skill development, and basic infrastructure.

The health sector will see efforts to fortify regional healthcare systems and enhance maternal and child nutrition to meet the SDGs. Educational initiatives aim to boost learning outcomes, cultivate inclusive school environments, and maintain hygienic educational facilities.

Agricultural and water resource projects under NITI Aayog intend to increase farmers' income and enhance agricultural producer associations by cultivating diverse and high-value crops.

The government-backed think tank will also address financial inclusion and skill development goals, expanding vocational training for youth and improving financial inclusion and social security coverage. Infrastructure enhancements will focus on increasing internet access and ensuring universal availability of water supplies.

Saito Mitsunori, Chief Representative of JICA India, emphasised the initiative's commitment to fostering impactful change in critical areas and strengthening the Japan-India partnership. "Together, we aim to contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive future for all," Mitsunori said.
