Tennis is working to improve its environmental stewardship. A new digital carbon tracker is being introduced by Infosys as part of its strategic partnership with the ATP, the organisation that oversees men's professional tennis. Players will be able to track and offset their carbon emissions while travelling to compete in tournaments across the world this tennis season thanks to a feature that is active as of right now and is hosted within the already-existing ATP PlayerZone app.

The application has a dashboard that gives players a comprehensive view of their travel-related emissions over multiple seasons, in line with the ATP's commitment to UN Sport for Climate Action, which includes a net-zero emissions target by 2040. This allows for a deeper understanding and analysis of travel decisions. To further enlighten gamers on sustainable practices and environmental campaigning, there are tools and quizzes available.

The Carbon Tracker will also introduce a "Green Badge" that players can earn at the conclusion of each season, to be displayed across their profile and rankings pages on ATPTour.com as a symbol of their commitment to decreasing the sport's carbon footprint. This is in addition to helping players achieve greener practices.

Sumit Virmani, Chief Marketing Officer, Infosys, said, “The synergy between Infosys and ATP has resulted in a very action-oriented innovation that sensitises the need for energy transition in sports. In recent times, we have witnessed a multitude of digital sustainability platforms that are enabling organizations to pave their way to net zero emissions. Together with the ATP, we will strive to make tennis carbon conscious as a sport. As we drive towards a hyperconnected economy, it is imperative for us to focus on dynamically driving carbon consciousness in an innovative, sustainable, and efficient manner.”

The function, a cutting-edge solution in global sport, will be available through the ATP PlayerZone website and mobile app, which Infosys and the ATP introduced in 2016. Players will be able to disclose their trip information and classify the mode of transportation used to travel to each tournament, and a corresponding carbon footprint will be calculated. Players will therefore be able to travel more thoughtfully and reduce their carbon footprint according to the Gold benchmark, a top sustainable development benchmark and partner of the ATP in climate action.

Massimo Calvelli, Chief Executive Officer, ATP, said, “Tennis is on a mission to net zero, and like many sports, our travel footprint is our biggest challenge. ATP’s new Carbon Tracker makes it simple for players to join that journey, mitigating their impact today and inspiring greener choices tomorrow. This is a story of addressing difficult problems through innovation, and we would like to thank Infosys for their collaboration and commitment to the project. The potential of this app is massive, and we’re just getting started.”
