The Durex Global Sex Survey 2024, a comprehensive look at sexual health and well-being in 36 countries, has revealed significant trends and insights into India's sexual landscape. Durex's 95th anniversary survey, which included over 118,000 participants over two decades, revealed both encouraging progress and areas for future improvement.

Since 2006, India has seen a 37 percent increase in condom use during first sexual encounters, with the figure expected to reach 59 percent by 2024. This is consistent with the global trend, with 55 percent of respondents reporting using condoms during their first sexual experiences, a 34 percent increase since 2006. Condoms remain the most popular contraceptive method, especially among first-time users, who are three times more likely to continue using them in the future.

India has the highest rates of sexual satisfaction worldwide, with 76 percent reporting physical satisfaction and 73 percent reporting emotional satisfaction. However, a gender gap remains, with men 20 percent more likely than women to orgasm consistently during sex.

Ben Wilson, Intimate Wellness Global Category Director at Reckitt, Durex's parent company, stated, "It is encouraging to see that so many people are having a satisfying and fulfilling sex life... We understand that intimate wellness can have a significant impact on overall health, and we are dedicated to ensuring that everyone has a positive sex life."

The survey discovered a strong link between sexual satisfaction and overall well-being. Sexually satisfied people reported higher levels of health, confidence, and happiness, emphasising the significance of a positive sexual experience for overall well-being.

The survey reveals an increased willingness to experiment in the bedroom.

Compared to 2017, sex toy purchases increased by 46 percent, while lube usage increased by 6 percent. Sexting is also becoming more popular, with 11 percent of Indian respondents using it with their partners.

Society is also becoming more accepting of sexual diversity, with a 34 percent increase in global acceptance of same-sex partners since 2006, including a 13 percent rise in India. Notably, 44 percent of 18–24-year-olds worldwide identify as "not fully straight," indicating a generational shift in attitudes towards sexuality.

Pornography consumption continues to rise, with a 15 percent increase worldwide since 2017. Women now represent 44 percent of viewers. Furthermore, 31 percent of global respondents have worn "sexy" underwear and participated in sensual massages, indicating a willingness to experiment with different forms of sexual expression.

The Durex Global Sex Survey 2024 provides a comprehensive look at India's changing sexual landscape. While the increased use of condoms and high levels of sexual satisfaction are encouraging, the gender disparity in orgasm experience, as well as the persistence of certain taboos, highlight areas for further education and discussion. Durex, a leading brand in sexual well-being, is still committed to assisting people in their pursuit of fulfilling and safe sexual experiences.
