The historic deal, the UAE consensus, emerged after intense negotiations spanning nearly two weeks. It notably encourages nations to expedite the reduction of unabated coal power usage.

In a critical moment at the COP28 climate summit, Bhupendra Yadav, India's Environment Minister, urged global leaders to uphold the Paris Agreement with utmost commitment, highlighting the principles of equity and climate justice.

The summit has ended with a ground-breaking agreement that advocates for a shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, marking a significant step in international efforts to combat climate change. The UAE consensus has emerged after nearly two weeks of intense negotiations. Notably, it encourages nations to expedite the reduction of unabated coal power usage, a compromise reached after India and China strongly opposed targeting coal exclusively.

Minister Yadav, reflecting on the summit's outcomes, highlighted the positive atmosphere of collaboration that prevailed in Dubai. He took to social media to praise the collective approach adopted at COP28, aligning it with India's G20 Presidency goals under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The minister emphasised India's dedication to inclusive climate action, invoking the 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' principle - which means that the world is one family. India supports the COP decision document while highlighting the importance of acting for the global good in line with national contexts. Yadav urged developed nations to lead by example, considering their historical emissions, and emphasised the need for concrete measures to achieve the goals set forth at the summit.

The minister proudly announced that India has not only met its initial Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) for 2030 but has also ambitiously revised them upwards, reaffirming its dedication to limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

This accomplishment showcases India's determination to balance economic growth and ecological conservation. By advocating for the Paris Agreement and adopting a proactive approach towards climate initiatives, India is setting a commendable precedent for other nations to emulate in our joint pursuit of a healthier and sustainable planet.
