According to Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, India is at the vanguard of the global fight against climate change, with the country fulfilling its environmental commitments.

Goyal said at an event in the Capital that India is the fourth best performer in the world in terms of meeting Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) promised at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 21).

Climate change mitigation measures are becoming more important as legislation such as carbon taxes become more widely used in international trade.

According to the Union Minister, India has evolved into a global growth engine.

He expressed that it is no small feat for a country that was labelled a fragile five country in 2014 when the present government took office to have converted into the world's fifth largest economy. India experienced a brief time where inflation rose from around 4.5% to 6.5% in comparison to the rest of the industrialised world, which saw inflation range from 1% to 10%.
