Eminent scientists and thought leaders have stated that India's National Hydrogen Mission, faster adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), and other such initiatives will assist the country in achieving its net-zero target by 2070.

During a Technology Development Board (TDB) event organised by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Professor Ajay Kumar Sood, the Principal Scientific Advisor to the government, emphasised the importance of promoting EVs. He highlighted those initiatives such as the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) and Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) could substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Professor Sood also discussed the EV Mission, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Science, Technology Innovation and Advisory Council (PM-STIAC), which is aimed at developing supportive standards and frameworks for EV adoption.

Secretary of DST, Professor Abhay Karandikar, highlighted the government's efforts to fund research and development programs and encourage innovation. He emphasised schemes like NIDHI and TDB, which are aimed at incubating startups and fostering entrepreneurship.

In his keynote address, Padma Shri Professor G.D. Yadav emphasised the importance of sustainable solutions. He advocated for carbon removal and technological innovations to achieve net-zero by 2070.
