Hindustan Zinc revolutionises industry norms with EcoZen, Asia’s pioneering low-carbon ‘green’ zinc, setting new standards in sustainability and global metal production
In a groundbreaking move towards sustainability, Hindustan Zinc Limited (NSE: HINDZINC) has unveiled EcoZen, heralded as Asia’s inaugural low-carbon ‘green’ zinc brand. This milestone positions Hindustan Zinc, India's largest and the world’s second-largest integrated zinc producer, at the forefront of environmental stewardship in the metals industry.
EcoZen distinguishes itself with a carbon footprint of less than one tonne per tonne of zinc produced, marking a remarkable 75 percent reduction compared to the global average. Certified through a rigorous life cycle assessment (LCA) by a leading international sustainability firm, the product underscores Hindustan Zinc’s commitment to sustainability across its operations.
Zinc plays a pivotal role in galvanising steel, which is critical for sectors such as infrastructure, automotive, renewable energy, electronics, and energy storage. By choosing EcoZen, customers not only benefit from its high quality but also contribute to significant carbon savings, avoiding approximately 400 kg of carbon emissions per tonne of steel galvanised.
