Hindalco Industries, an Aditya Birla Group company, is providing a virtual reality tour of its sustainable mining initiatives at the mining pavilion of the India International Trade Fair (IITF).

The virtual reality tour showcases Hindalco's sustainability efforts, covering aspects such as sustainable land use, waste management, local economic development, biodiversity, water stewardship, health and safety, and decarbonization.

Hindalco Industries Ltd. is presenting its range of sustainability initiatives through an immersive virtual reality presentation at the Mining Pavilion of the India International Trade Fair 2023, taking place at Pragati Maidan in the national capital from November 14–27. This marks the first time the Ministry of Mines has set up the mining pavilion.

The virtual reality tour aims to highlight Hindalco's commitment to sustainability, guided by its Sustainable Mining Charter, the country's first charter with a focus on maintaining ecological balance and contributing to the well-being of the Earth and its inhabitants.

Satish Pai, Managing Director of Hindalco Industries, explained that the immersive virtual reality presentation captures sustainability initiatives undertaken by Hindalco in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. Notable efforts include using ropeways for environmentally friendly bauxite transportation at the Bagru mine in Jharkhand, Asia's oldest bauxite mine.

The presentation also showcases initiatives like Birsa Upavan and Nakshatra Garden, support for duck farming, and pisciculture projects to promote biodiversity and sustainable mining. Additionally, the Kosala initiative by Hindalco strengthens the supply chain of Kosa silk products in Chhattisgarh.

Pai further mentioned that the presentation demonstrates the use of green energy, highlighting the water-positive bauxite mine Hindalco Samri in Chhattisgarh, tree plantation initiatives in Chhattisgarh, and other sustainable practises. Visitors, including seven-year-old Ganeev, have found the virtual reality tour both interesting and informative during their visit to the IITF.
