Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu instructed officials from the energy department to promptly formulate guidelines for the solar energy scheme.

Chairing a meeting of the energy department, he emphasised that the current state government has pledged a 40 percent subsidy to the youth in the state for the installation of solar projects with capacities ranging from 100 KW to 1 MW. The department is tasked with executing and outlining the complete scheme.

In addition to creating opportunities for self-employment among the youth, the scheme is expected to significantly contribute to the state government's efforts to transform Himachal Pradesh into a green energy state by March 31, 2026, according to a statement issued in this regard.

Sukhu reiterated that the government commits to purchasing electricity for 25 years from units established under this scheme, ensuring a stable income source for the youth.

The chief minister highlighted the state government's promotion of solar energy exploitation, setting a target to generate 500 MW of solar energy in the fiscal year 2023–24. He underscored the government's dedication to environmental conservation and outlined various measures being taken to achieve this goal.

The production of solar energy is deemed a crucial step in positioning Himachal Pradesh as a green energy state and addressing its power requirements. Sukhu also noted the promotion of electric vehicles in the state, anticipating an increased demand for electricity in the future.
