Nasdaq-listed battery swapping company Gogoro announced that it has signed an initial agreement with HPCL to establish battery swapping stations across India in the coming years.

As part of this collaboration, Gogoro will create an extensive battery swapping infrastructure for electric two-wheelers, deploying these stations across HPCL's network of retail outlets throughout the country. HPCL, a public-sector oil marketing company, operates over 21,000 retail outlets.

Horace Luke, Founder and CEO of Gogoro, stated, "We are announcing a partnership with HPCL to roll out thousands of Gogoro battery swapping stations across its retail outlets throughout the country in the coming years."

India is in the early stages of a significant electric transformation in its urban two-wheeler transportation system, and it is becoming increasingly clear that battery swapping is a crucial element for widespread adoption. Therefore, expanding the battery swapping infrastructure is of utmost importance, he added.

Luke also emphasised that Gogoro is collaborating with the Indian business community and national and local governments to establish an open, accessible, and scalable battery swapping and electric vehicle ecosystem.

Amit Garg, Director of Marketing at HPCL, stated, "HPCL and Gogoro are partnering to develop a broad battery swapping infrastructure for two-wheeler vehicles that will both grow and sustain a leading electric vehicle ecosystem in India that is safe, clean, and readily available across India's cities."

Gogoro, which has conducted nearly 500 million battery swaps to date, has developed a platform that HPCL can adopt and replicate, according to Garg.
