With a steadfast commitment to promoting biodiversity and wildlife conservation, India's forest cover has seen a consistent increase over the last 15 years. This encouraging data was presented by a delegation of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) at the recently concluded United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) in The US, instilling hope for a greener future.

The delegation asserted that the expanding forest cover was a testament to the country's progress in forest conservation and sustainable forest management. There is data to show that forest cover grew at the third fastest rate in the world between 2010 and 2020.

Reflecting its resolve to foster biodiversity and wildlife conservation, India has witnessed a significant expansion in the network of protected areas to over a thousand wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, tiger reserves, biosphere reserves, and other wildlife habitats.

The delegation also highlighted its role in the creation of the International Big Cat Alliance and the 'Green Credit Programme' to incentivise entities to take up tree plantations and restore degraded forest lands.
