Union Power Minister R. K. Singh has announced two initiatives by the state-owned Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL) aimed at distributing one crore energy-efficient ceiling fans and 20 lakh induction cookstoves throughout the country.

EESL, a joint venture of public sector undertakings under the Ministry of Power, launched its National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP) and Energy Efficient Fans Programme (EEFP). These programmes seek to revolutionise cooking practises in India and underscore the importance and urgency of energy-efficient fans.

As part of these initiatives, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd. (EESL) will distribute one crore efficient Brushless Direct Current (BLDC) fans and 20 lakh energy-efficient induction cookstoves nationwide. Induction cookstoves offer a cost advantage of 25–30% over traditional cooking methods, promising both energy savings and cost-effective cooking solutions. EESL aims to reduce the environmental impact of cooking methods, ensuring cleaner air and improved health for citizens.

EESL has also partnered with Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) to deploy induction cooktops on a large scale, which is expected to accelerate the acceptance and widespread adoption of modern electric cooking devices in Indian kitchens.

On the other hand, the energy-efficient ceiling fans will not only reduce energy consumption and environmental impact but also enhance consumer comfort while lowering electricity bills, creating a win-win situation for all.

Union Power Minister Singh highlighted that EESL has been instrumental in India's energy transition journey, working in collaboration with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) to introduce groundbreaking schemes on a global scale. These initiatives have significantly reduced carbon emissions by 45 million tonnes and prevented a peak power demand of 12 GW.

Singh emphasised that electric cooking is actively promoted in the country, particularly for low-income families. EESL aims to achieve a 35% reduction in electricity consumption for fans in both organised and unorganised sectors.

Union Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal mentioned that the fan market in India is estimated at around Rs 10,500 crore, with a significant portion of the demand arising from replacements. EESL's introduction of the 5-star labelling programme is expected to stimulate significant demand for ceiling fan replacements across India.

Agarwal acknowledged the electrification of vehicles and cooking solutions as the most achievable goals, but due to the vast number of households to reach, he expects EESL's outreach to drive down prices and benefit citizens on a large scale.

EESL CEO Vishal Kapoor stated, "We aim not only to sell fans but also to transform the market, particularly in urban areas, by promoting energy-efficient BLDC fans."
