Tata Communications, a worldwide enabler of the digital ecosystem, today declared its dedication to being net zero across its global operations by 2035. Tata Communications wants to 'Invest in our Planet' on this Earth Day 2023 as part of its effort to quicken and strengthen its commitment to sustainability for the planet.

The company describes the three Cs for enabling businesses and protecting the environment as part of this:

  • Climate action - By expanding the use of renewable energy sources and improving energy efficiency. The Company expects to achieve Carbon Neutrality by FY 2030 and Net Zero by 2035 as a result.
  • GHG (Greenhouse Gas emission) savings for the customer - By creating and delivering green or low carbon solutions via IoT solutions, Media and Entertainment Services, Cloud, and Business Collaboration platforms, customers can make their supply chains more environmentally friendly and improve their competitiveness. The potential reduction in GHG emissions from the Company's customers as a result is 20X by FY 2027.
  • India's circular economies - By adopting its own IoT solutions, such as smart metres to monitor water usage and leaks in real-time at important sites, as well as by putting rainwater harvesting into place and improving water and trash recycling across the Company's important campuses in India. By doing this, the company hopes to cut its freshwater usage by 20% (as compared to FY 2020) by FY 2030. Additionally, the company pledges to compost, recycle, or reuse all garbage in India by 2027 in order to achieve zero waste to landfills.

"Sustainability is at the core of our business strategy, and we are committed to creating a more sustainable future for our ecosystem," said A.S. Lakshminarayanan, MD & CEO, Tata Communications. "Our Net Zero goal reflects our responsibility to innovate, integrate, and empower with inclusive and sustainable solutions. We believe technology is a key enabler of global growth while at the same time, catalysing societal evolution and climate action."

Tata Communications is on a mission to contribute to the creation of sustainable solutions, scalable impact, and safe ecosystems. Tata Communications is leading with trust and harnessing its digital strengths. The Tata Group Sustainability Plan and the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations served as inspiration for its sustainability plan, which aims to produce shared benefits for all.
