UNFPA, along with the governments of Bangladesh, Bulgaria, and Japan, inaugurated a two-day global dialogue in Dhaka, emphasising the need for rights-based policies in an increasingly diverse world.

"In a world grappling with conflicts, record humanitarian displacement, climate change, migration, rising intolerance, and a surge of misinformation and disinformation, it is evidence- and rights-based decisions that will shape the future of reproductive health and rights," said Dr. Natalia Kanem, UNFPA Executive Director, during the opening session.

The dialogue, marking the 30th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), calls for renewed commitment to gender equality, investment in human potential, and sustainable development.

"From the outset, Bangladesh remained staunchly committed to implementing the ICPD Programme of Action," said Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh. "We would like to see UNFPA and other development partners... enable all countries... to achieve the ICPD goals and targets."

Experts from various sectors will discuss the impact of megatrends, technology, and climate change on global populations, with topics ranging from urban development and healthy aging to the future of rural communities. Discussions will also address the demographic impact on health systems, pensions, and economic growth.

The global dialogue aims to foster a forward-looking vision that embraces demographic diversity and promotes sustainable development for all.
