For the national capital, the Delhi government has started formulating an electric vehicle (EV) policy. In August, the current one will expire. Online feedback about the policy is welcome from the public. The link to the same is accessible on the transport department's various social media platforms.

A senior official of the Delhi government said, "We had recently done a stakeholder consultation for drafting a revised EV policy. As part of the exercise and to make the consultation wider, we have also invited suggestions from common people."

Most people have thus far asked for more subsidies. Other ideas include financial incentives for parking, simpler financing alternatives, and interest rate reductions for buyers of EVs.

According to people with knowledge of the situation, the Delhi government has so far met 86% of the goals it set forth in its Electric Vehicles Policy 2020 despite a strong increase in sales of such vehicles over the past three years.

The Delhi Government offers a purchase incentive of Rs. 5,000 per kWh of the battery powering the EVs, with a maximum incentive amount of Rs. 30,000 per car, in accordance with the Delhi Electric Vehicles Policy, 2020. The two-wheelers must, however, meet a few requirements that the government has outlined in its policy in order to qualify for the incentive.

The EV must meet the standards, which call for a minimum top speed of 40 kmph and a minimum acceleration of 0.65 m/s2. Additionally, the battery's power usage cannot go over 7 kWh every 100 km. In addition to the monetary incentive, interested buyers can take advantage of a 100% road tax exemption if they move to or join the electric revolution.

While the Delhi government's EV policy is still in effect for two- and three-wheelers, the incentives for four-wheelers have been eliminated. The government decided to stop offering incentives of Rs. 10,000 per kWh of battery capacity, with a total monetary ceiling of Rs. 1,50,000, in response to the policy and subsidies not being up to par.
