According to research commissioned by AWS and conducted by Accenture, using AWS’s global infrastructure is up to 4.1 times more efficient than traditional on-premises setups. In India, shifting AI workloads to AWS data centres can reduce carbon emissions by 98 percent, thanks to the company’s use of advanced hardware, improved power and cooling efficiency, and increased procurement of carbon-free energy.

AWS's focus on purpose-built silicon, such as the Graviton4 processor, enhances performance while cutting energy consumption. For instance, Paytm and IBS Software have reported significant decreases in carbon emissions by adopting AWS’s Graviton processors. The study also highlights AWS’s innovations in cooling and power management, which further optimise energy efficiency.

Jenna Leiner from AWS emphasises the importance of these advancements as India aims to meet its net-zero emissions target by 2070. The study underlines that as AI adoption grows, leveraging AWS's energy-efficient technologies offers a substantial opportunity for Indian organisations to contribute to sustainability goals.
