Students who want to graduate must now take courses in environmental education. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has given its affiliated colleges and universities the go-ahead to add environmental studies as a required subject for all undergraduate degree divisions.

According to the UGC's standards, environmental education will cover topics like biodiversity management, forest and wildlife conservation, sustainable development, pollution control, sanitation, and climate change. It will also cover topics like sanitation, waste management, and the protection of biological diversity.

These recommendations for the direction of the Union Ministry of Education were made by the UGC. According to the UGC, official instructions in this respect have been provided via notification to all of the nation's universities. These recommendations state that all undergraduate curricula should include environmental education as a core subject.

The curriculum for environmental education is multidisciplinary, according to the Ministry of Education. Because of this, higher education institutions all around the nation are free to apply this subject using whatever methodology and procedure they like.

This environment-related subject is based on the learning outcome, according to the UGC. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is also in keeping with the instructions made in this regard.

According to the UGC, the recommendations place a strong focus on making environmental education a significant component of undergraduate degree programmes. The curriculum also promotes environmental sensitivity, awareness, and protection in order to promote sustainable development.

In addition to this, the field of higher education has also made another significant advancement. If students complete the necessary credits for their degree plan within the allotted four years, they will be granted a degree.
