The era of single-use plastics and excessive packaging has been replaced by eco-friendly alternatives, primarily driven by growing awareness of climate change, increasing plastic pollution, and a shift towards sustainability. As a result, environmentally conscious consumers are more inclined to purchase from brands that embrace green packaging solutions.

In a recent survey conducted on LinkedIn, DCGpac, India’s top packaging platform, aimed to understand how consumers' views on sustainable packaging impact their purchasing behaviour. The survey garnered a significant number of responses, revealing that 84 percent of consumers are influenced by sustainable packaging when making purchasing decisions.

The survey highlighted that 96 percent of consumers prefer to buy products with sustainable packaging. Even though sustainable packaging can be more expensive, 89 percent of consumers are willing to pay a premium for products with eco-friendly packaging because it aligns with their values and ethics. This indicates a strong trend towards eco-conscious consumer behaviour and suggests a growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions.

Commenting on the demand for sustainable packaging, Suresh Bansal, founder of DCGpac, said, “The packaging industry is undergoing a paradigm shift, facilitated by the need for sustainability and consumer demand for eco-friendly solutions. As a result, it has become a strategic imperative for businesses to prioritise sustainable packaging. By embracing this efficient solution, businesses have the opportunity to build a greener future whilst leveraging the benefits of an eco-conscious customer base.”

With 90 percent of today’s customers supporting brands that commit to sustainable packaging practices, brands are more keen than ever to offer products that are both made and packaged in ecologically safe layers. As the need to offer packaging that is both well-priced and sustainable becomes stronger, 83 percent of brands are embracing recyclable and compostable materials to shift towards adopting sustainable packaging.

The survey findings emphasise the importance for brands to adopt sustainable packaging solutions. Doing so will contribute to their success by enhancing their reputation, competitiveness in the market, and expanding their consumer base. The increasing focus on green packaging provides an opportunity to support a circular economy by addressing environmental concerns through recycling and sustainable practices.
